Trump Praises DeSantis Support

Former President Donald Trump wrote this week that he was grateful for the support of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) despite the bruising presidential primary battle that ended earlier this year. The statement came as the two men met in Florida over the weekend for the first time since DeSantis left the primary after a loss in the Iowa Caucus.

The former president wrote on social media that he was “very happy to have the full and enthusiastic support” of the governor. Trump said that the two had a “great meeting” that was arranged by “mutual friend Steve Witkoff.”

He added that the conversation was “mostly concerned how we would work closely together to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.” Trump also said that the two discussed the “future of Florida, which is FANTASTIC!”

“I greatly appreciate Ron’s support in taking back our Country from the Worst President in the History of the United States,” wrote Trump.

The meeting also sparked speculation that Trump may select DeSantis as a potential vice presidential running mate. However, DeSantis has said in the past that he was not interested in such an idea.

Trump has also not included DeSantis in public comments regarding his potential choice. The former president has previously stated that he already knows who will be his VP choice.

The former president has praised a number of Republican leaders in recent months. This includes Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), who Trump said campaigns harder for him than during his brief bid for the White House. Trump has also praised Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), who emerged as one of the most stalwart supporters of the former president in Congress.

Other potential leaders include North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R), who the former president appears to be impressed by.

However, it is unclear whether or not Trump will choose an elected official as his potential vice presidential pick. Former First Lady Melania Trump has reportedly backed former Fox News host Tucker Carlson for the position.
