The U.S. capital is the least livable city in America for a second year running, according to an annual position that ranks cities from best.
A survey by Clever, found that the nation’s capital is 1 of the top five worst cities in America for a third (33%) of Americans.
The survey of 1,000 people conducted in June also looked at the most recent migration data from the U.S. Census Bureau as it tried to determine why D.C. has perennially held this dubious title.
Aside from the politics, Clever adds that Washington D.C is also home to one of the most expensive housing markets in America. A shocking 65% of Americans list high cost of living as a reason they would not want to live in an area.
One of the most common costs in D.C. is housing, which can be very expensive and increase the overall cost of living. That includes the July 31,2024 Zillow median list price for a Seattle home of $638,000.
The crime rate is also such that it tarnishes much of what ought to make the capital appealing. D.C. saw its most homicides in more than 20 years with 274 recorded in 2023.
Washington D.C. is not the only place that will now be ghosted as various of other biggest cities in America like New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco were included among this list where no one wants to live in the U.S.
According to Clever, Los Angeles residents are in the hole for about $162,000 if they want to afford an annual income necessary just buy a home due steep housing costs.
Counterbalance that with cities such as Baltimore and Detroit, where owning a home is more affordable, but they are two of the most dangerous places to live in America. Detroit and Baltimore are first in the nation with rapes, murders, and aggravated assaults while Detroit comes off as number one for robberies per 100k.
The second and third most desirable cities are Charlotte, North Carolina and Virginia Beach, Virginia.
