Authorities are intensifying their search for the assailant responsible for the brutal assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan, according to Mayor Eric Adams. “The investigation is gaining momentum,” the mayor informed reporters during a holiday event hosted by the Police Athletic League in Harlem on Saturday.

Brian Thompson, the Chief Executive Officer of the insurance giant UnitedHealthcare, was fatally shot on Wednesday just outside a luxurious Midtown hotel in what police described as a “brazen, targeted attack.” The calculated killer employed a firearm equipped with a silencer and opened fire on Thompson in the vicinity of the Hilton hotel on Sixth Avenue. The gunman discharged multiple rounds, striking Thompson in the back and right calf, before promptly fleeing the scene on foot.

The NYPD has released a new photograph depicting the hooded suspect standing at the counter of a Starbucks located at the intersection of West 56th Street and 6th Avenue, mere minutes away from the Hilton hotel where Thompson was slain. Thompson had assumed the role of CEO at UnitedHealth in April 2021, having joined the company in 2004. He was among several senior executives at the company under investigation by the Department of Justice.

Thompson’s wife, Paulette, revealed that her husband had been receiving threats prior to his untimely demise. The NYPD is investigating a potential message – which appears to include the words “deny,” “depose,” and “defend” – engraved on live rounds and shell casings left behind by the masked assassin.

The mayor’s remarks came as the manhunt for Thompson’s killer entered its fourth day. Thompson was gunned down on a sidewalk as he approached an investor event in Manhattan without any security personnel accompanying him.

New surveillance footage has been released, capturing the shooting perpetrator inside the HI Hostel on the Upper West Side, located at 891 Amsterdam Ave.
