According to Rep. Andy Biggs, the nominee for defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, is very close to securing the necessary votes for confirmation. The Arizona Republican expressed this view during an interview on Newsmax’s “Sunday Report.” Biggs mentioned that he has been in discussions with his senator colleagues, and based on these conversations, there is a belief that Hegseth will overcome the existing hurdles and ultimately be confirmed.
Pete Hegseth is an inspirational leader in service of our brave men and women in uniform.
More and more of my Senate colleagues are learning the same after getting to know him.

Biggs emphasized that President-elect Donald Trump deserves to have Hegseth in the defense secretary role, as he believes Hegseth will perform exceptionally well in that position. While there were speculations last week about Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis potentially replacing Hegseth, Biggs stated that he does not think DeSantis will relinquish his current seat to take on the defense secretary role, despite acknowledging that DeSantis would also do an outstanding job.
Expressing his unwavering support for Hegseth, Biggs declared, “I’m an ‘eggs in one basket’ kind of guy, and I’m all-in for Pete Hegseth.” He further added that Trump has confidence in Hegseth as well, asserting, “This is President Trump’s first choice, and I believe, and I call on my senator compatriots, they really need to give President Trump the personnel that he needs around him, and he wants Pete Hegseth.”
The Senate should adhere to President Trump’s electoral mandate and confirm all of his Cabinet nominees like @PeteHegseth.

Additionally, Biggs discussed Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), expressing hope that the issue of government spending would become a bipartisan concern. “Both parties have the spending problem,” he said. “They’ve got the spending addiction. And I thought the meeting went pretty well with Elon [Musk] and Vivek [Ramaswamy]… the most salient point that was made there, in my opinion, was it’s Congress’ problem. Congress has a spending addiction, and we need to overcome that.”
