The forthcoming Border Czar, Thomas Homan, states that the incoming President Donald Trump administration will reinstate Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) capability to safeguard American workers through conducting worksite enforcement operations and reinstating the “Remain in Mexico” border policy.

“We haven’t really finalized the strategy for worksite enforcement,” Homan informed the Washington Post regarding permitting ICE agents to carry out such immigration enforcement actions. “We understand that employers are going to be displeased.”

In February 2021, Biden stripped ICE of its ability to conduct worksite enforcement raids. At that time, an agency official conveyed to the Post that the administration had “abolished ICE without formally abolishing ICE.”

In addition to protecting American workers from illegal employment, Homan mentioned that the incoming Trump administration will reinstate the Remain in Mexico policy at the southern border, which Biden terminated on his first day in office.

“We need to demonstrate to the American populace that we can handle this situation without being inhumane,” Homan told the Post. “We cannot afford to lose the faith of the American people.”

The Remain in Mexico policy was established and enforced by the previous Trump administration, significantly curbing asylum fraud by ensuring that migrants are not released into the U.S. interior while awaiting their immigration hearings.

Homan stated that the forthcoming administration will similarly construct temporary facilities to accommodate migrant adults accompanied by the children they arrive with at the border.
