Former President Donald Trump has just made a bold, new campaign promise with the potential to change life for many American families. Speaking at a rally in Potterville, Michigan, Trump announced that if he is to be elected president again, IVF treatments would be covered for all Americans under his administration-federally funded or by requiring insurance companies to pay.
Trump told reporters before the rally that he is always in support of IVF.
“It’s helping women, men and families. We need great children, beautiful children in our country; we actually need them,” he stated.
The former president emphasized that America needs to support American families. “Under the Trump administration, we are going to be paying for that treatment…for all Americans to get it,” he added.
At the rally, Trump formally announced his IVF policy, and told his supporters, “I am announcing today that under the Trump administration, your government will pay for or your insurance company will be required to pay for all costs associated with IVF treatment. Because we want more babies, to put it very nicely.”
The Republican presidential candidate didn’t stop there, as he also proposed allowing new parents to deduct major newborn expenses from their taxes, further easing the financial burden on families.

It’s a move in response to a big legal decision at the beginning of the year when the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos are children. The ruling sparked frenzied debate and concern amongst those invested in the future of fertility treatments like IVF. Trump-who has been highly vocal about his support for IVF-called on the Alabama legislature to move with all due haste.
“Under my leadership, the Republican Party will always support the creation of strong, thriving, healthy American families. We want to make it easier for mothers and fathers to have babies, not harder!” Trump wrote at the time.
The Alabama legislature quickly responded to the decision by advancing legislation that protects access to IVF. Republican Gov. Kay Ivey signed the legislation into law. But despite Trump’s overt embrace of the technology, Vice President Kamala Harris has criticized him for the Alabama Supreme Court’s decision.
“He literally is the architect of this entire crisis,” Harris said in a video, tied to Trump’s appointment of conservative justices to the U.S. Supreme Court.
This newest policy on IVF by Trump will deeply resonate with many people, especially those who have struggled in attempting to build and expand their families.
