Title 42 Migrant Surge Adds Pressure To Biden White House

The Heritage Foundation issued a simple message during the recent migrant surge sparked by the Biden White House’s overturning of the Title 42 immigration policy. The conservative organization’s tweet aligned with significant criticism by conservatives over the Biden administration’s decision to end the program, put in place by former President Donald Trump.

“Secure nations need secure borders,” read the Sunday tweet alongside an emoji of the American flag.

The directive allowed law enforcement to deport illegal aliens more quickly.

The administration’s decision to end the Title 42 policy has already had a significant impact on the U.S.-Mexico border. Last week, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported the highest flow of migrants yet recorded, at over 10,000 per day.

The high average last week came as President Joe Biden said that the situation at the border was going to be “chaotic for a while.”

The president went even further, saying that there was “chaos at the border for a number of years.”

“We have to fully fund the border security effort,” Biden said.

The issues at the border have prompted a significant response from a number of officials. Texas announced that it would deploy a special border task force comprised of the Texas National Guard and state police.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said that the Lone Star state would be “deploying specially trained soldiers for the Texas Tactical Border Force, who will be deployed to hotspots all along the border to help intercept and repel large groups of migrants trying to enter Texas illegally.”

The governor said that his state’s effort would occur “amid the chaos caused by President Biden’s elimination of Title 42.”

A number of members of Congress called for the policy to be put back in place, including through a potential new law.

A number of Republicans and several Democrats have backed such an effort.

This includes Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), who recently launched a presidential exploratory committee. He spoke similarly to the Heritage Foundation, stating that, if “you control your back door, you don’t control your country.”
