Special counsel Jack Smith sought to restrict the ability of former President Donald Trump to comment on the ongoing prosecution related to his alleged handling of classified documents. Smith’s request came after Trump discussed the 2022 raid on his Mar-a-Lago estate.
Smith asked U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon for the gag order related to comments about the 2022 raid last week. Smith requested that Trump be barred from speaking on subjects that “pose a significant, imminent and foreseeable danger to law enforcement agents participating in the investigation and prosecution of this case.”
The special counsel’s request came after Trump said that the FBI that raided his estate were “locked & loaded ready to take me out & put my family in danger.”
The FBI is not authorized to use deadly force in raids such as the one on Mar-a-Lago except when the life or serious injury of an officer or another person is at risk.
“These deceptive and inflammatory claims expose the law enforcement professionals who are involved in this case to unjustified and unacceptable risks,” said Smith.
Trump accused Smith and his “Team of Political Hacks and Thugs” of being “once again caught in a LIE in the Sham “Documents” Case.” Trump cited the recent case in which President Joe Biden allegedly took classified material from his time as vice president and a senator. Trump said that Biden was “fully exonerated on the basis of his TOTAL INCOMPETENCE.”

“They said, in effect, that Biden is not capable of defending himself in Court, but could nevertheless run for President, if he wanted. An Exoneration like that I would not want,” Trump wrote on social media.
“The former president argued that Smith “badly wanted to hide his own GRAVE MISCONDUCT, but must have been prevented from doing so by an Honest and Patriotic Eyewitness,” added Trump.
“The Corruption of our Justice System has to be put to an end, and those responsible, including Crooked Joe Biden and those controlling him, have to be held to account. MAGA 2024!” wrote Trump.
