A number of prominent Republican officials sharply criticized Monday evening’s charges against former President Donald Trump brought by Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis (D) related to the aftermath of the 2020 election. The latest charges include not only the former president but a number of other individuals tied to him in the aftermath of the 2020 election.
One of the first officials to speak against the latest charges was House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who wrote on Twitter that President Joe “Biden has weaponized government against his leading political opponent to interfere in the 2024 election.”
“Now a radical DA in Georgia is following Biden’s lead by attacking President Trump and using it to fundraise her political career,” McCarthy wrote. “Americans see through this desperate sham.”
Justice should be blind, but Biden has weaponized government against his leading political opponent to interfere in the 2024 election.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) called the latest charges “another rogue Far Left radical District Attorney weaponizing their office to target Joe Biden’s top political opponent, President Trump,” She further said that the former president had “every legal right to challenge the results of the election” and stated that Willis showed “political bias” toward Trump.
“This blatant election interference by the Far Left will not work, President Trump will defeat these bogus charges and win back the White House in 2024,” she said.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said prior to the announcement of charges that the situation was “disgraceful” and that “Joe Biden & Democrats are weaponizing the justice system because they fear the voters.”
Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) said that “the radical Left is targeting the Republican frontrunner, President Trump, to distract from the Biden family corruption.”
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) wrote that the Fulton County charges were “just the latest political attack in the Democrats’ WITCHUNT against President Trump,” adding that the former president “did nothing wrong!”
Trump’s 2024 campaign said that Willis is a “rabid partisan who is campaigning and fundraising on a platform of prosecuting President Trump through these bogus indictments.”
The campaign also said that the district attorney was “Ripping a page from Crooked Joe Biden’s playbook” and timed it to “maximally interfere with the 2024 presidential race and damage the dominant Trump campaign.”
