This separation from Vox Media seems to be part of a pattern in Lorenz’s career trajectory. After previous stints with Business Insider, The Daily Beast, and The New York Times, Lorenz departed The Gray Lady in 2022 to join The Washington Post. She subsequently left her position at WaPo in October to write for her independent Substack titled “User Mag.”

Aside from gaining notoriety for revealing the identity of the creator behind the popular LibsOfTikTok Twitter profile, Lorenz has also faced criticism for her zealous embrace of COVID caution.
