Rep. Tenney Claims Democrats Attempting to Circumvent Laws to Codify Abortion

During an appearance on Newsmax’s “Rob Schmitt Tonight” on Friday, Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) asserted that attempts by the radical pro-abortion left to codify the “right” to an abortion by eliminating the filibuster are actuallay attempts to “circumvent our laws.”

“They aren’t codifying anything. They’re trying to force extreme positions by circumventing our laws, the filibuster; you name it. Anything they can do, packing the court, it’s really an abuse of power at its highest levels,” the New York Republican said.

Tenney went on to note that the Supreme Court shouldn’t have been legislating on the issue in the first place. Instead, the high court should be interpreting the Constitution based on its original intent.

What the Dobbs decision “is saying now the states have to weigh in on this very issue,” the GOP congresswoman said. “You know, the Mississippi law is the one that was before the Dobbs case. That said that before 15 weeks, abortions are banned in most cases, and that’s what the Supreme Court ruled on.”

The Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization overturned Roe v. Wade, which claimed that there was a constitutional right to an abortion. The Dobbs case was based on a Mississippi law which banned abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. In overturning Roe, the high court returned the issue of abortion back to the states, effectively giving up power to a lower branch of government and allowing the people to decide if they want abortion to be legal in their states by electing representatives that will either ban or allow the procedure.

Following the ruling, the radical pro-abortion left was outraged, despite the fact that abortion will continue to be legal in blue states. Many pro-abortion politicians and activists began calling on Congress to codify Roe into law at the federal level, taking away the power from red states to govern themselves.

“These people don’t know anything about what codify means, what our Constitution is. And to me, that’s the most tragic thing,” Tenney said, referring to far-left Democrats.

The comments from Tenney come amid growing calls from many on the left to eliminate the filibuster in response to several conservative victories on the Supreme Court regarding guns, religious liberty and especially the issue of abortion. As the Democrats cannot get their agenda passed through the divided Senate, they have decided that changing the rules is the only answer.

“A filibuster carveout is not enough. We need to reform or do away with the whole thing, for the sake of the planet,” tweeted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

The radical congresswoman later added in a follow-up tweet that voters should “CALL YOUR DEM SENATOR + ask them to CLEARLY support an abolished or talking filibuster.”
