Omar: Republicans Saying My Name Causes Death Threats

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) unsurprisingly used the news of the attack on Paul Pelosi in his home early Friday morning as a convenient platform to promote her own victimhood later in the same day.

Omar said during the Friday evening broadcast of “Alex Wagner Tonight” on MSNBC that every time President Donald Trump or other Republicans bring up her name, she sees an immediate increase in the death threats she claims to receive.

Host Alex Wagner invited Omar to comment by arguing that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has previously described Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) as a “traitor to our country,” who is “guilty of treason” because she “gives aid and comfort to our enemies.”

Omar responded by saying Democrats should not “live in fear” because they have decided to serve their constituents and the country. She said her fellow Democrats simply “want the ability to shape the way in which our country is governed.”

She went on to say that the statements Wagner read that were made by Greene are “dangerous, delusional, and disturbing.” She said that the “deflection” by Republicans is moving “us away from actual, honest accountability in this conversation.”

Omar said Greene “uses imagery in her campaigning with a rifle to our head” and also referred to Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO). She said Boebert has called Democrats “terrorists” and said they are “there to blow ourselves up.”

The “Squad” member said that whether it is Greene, Boebert, or “countless numbers of Republicans, starting with the former president” they all “constantly incite hate and violence.”

“I can trace the uptick of the level of death threats that I get from their rallies or any sort of Fox News or any right-wing media hits that mention my name and says that I am un-American,” she added.

As a result of her claims, she demanded that Republicans “be held accountable.” She then went on to say that the attack on Paul Pelosi and the fear that the Pelosi family “will live with for a really long time” is the same as the trauma that “myself and others have experienced.”

“All of that has a direct linkage to what Republicans are saying and doing to us every single day,” Omar added.
