Missouri and Louisiana joined to file a lawsuit against numerous Biden administration officials and federal agencies in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana. The case alleges the defendants colluded with a number of social media tech companies to censor and suppress the free speech of Americans.
The complaint alleges the government acted to suppress communications about Hunter Biden’s infamous abandoned laptop and the “lab leak theory” involving the origins of COVID-19.
The named defendants include Joe Biden, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci, Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, and “Disinformation Governance Board” Director Nina Jankowicz.
State Attorney General Eric Schmitt is representing Missouri in the case, and announced the filing of the complaint in a series of tweets. He said the complaint alleges that Biden has personally and through his administration’s officers “colluded with and pressured” a number of social media platforms including giants Facebook (Meta), Twitter, and YouTube to “suppress and censor free speech.”
The complaint cites a number of examples, including Twitter’s blatant censorship of the New York Post’s reporting on the Hunter Biden laptops story in 2020 shortly before the presidential election. It also provides details of censorship by Facebook of user speech regarding the Wuhan lab leak theory beginning in February 2020.
Schmitt also describes the allegations in the case as including a timeline of the Biden campaign and then the Biden administration’s coordination with social media platforms to address “disinformation” and “misinformation.”
The case alleges legal causes of action for First Amendment violations, actions in excess of statutory authority, and violations of the federal Administrative Procedure Act.
A Schmitt press release said that Big Tech media companies have become functionally extensions of the Biden administration. It says that both the government and the private companies are “suppressing and demonizing” Americans who dare to think and speak differently from the points of view accepted by the federal government.
The statement goes on to say that Biden’s acts of collusion with Big Tech has been “ripped from the playbook of Stalin and his ilk.” It adds that the lawsuit is being brought to protect the American rule of law and prevent the Biden administration from “banning, chilling, and stifling of speech.”
