Republicans are refusing to cooperate with the January 6 Commission’s request for information, and they shouldn’t comply. With Adam Schiff (D-CA) doctoring evidence and the sensationalism with the January 6 Capitol Riot that wasn’t pre-planned and wasn’t an attempted takeover of the government.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said, “As a representative and the leader of the minority party, it is with neither regret nor satisfaction that I have concluded to not participate with this select committee’s abuse of power that stains this institution today and will harm it going forward.”
It’s difficult to know how to proceed with these types of investigations that are partisan with the intent to block one party from running for re-election. There’s no doubt that the United States was in a better place under former President Donald Trump and his policies, even if some didn’t like how he spoke or tweeted.
The January 6 Commission didn’t start in good standing. McCarthy suggested that the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi rejected many solid Republicans who volunteered to participate. Still, Pelosi decided to select Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) and Liz Cheney (R-WY) instead. Kinzinger and Cheney are labeled as Republicans, but they act more as Democrats as they go against Republicans that want to bring the country out of President Joe Biden’s Administration and further into freedom.
McCarthy also said that Pelosi isn’t “conducting a legitimate investigation.” There would be unquestionable evidence if it were legitimate, but there’s not. There’s a speech that Trump gave miles away from the Capitol building and people who destroyed property and entered the Capitol building. Hundreds of people have been charged with crimes, so where’s the insurrection? When did it happen? Why is it acceptable for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Schiff to lie about the incident and the evidence, but it’s not fair to reject the idea that an insurrection took place?
McCarthy also said, “The committee’s only objective is to attempt to damage its political opponent’s action like the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee one day and the DOJ the next.”
It’s not a secret that Republican politicians are being banned and censored on Twitter and other social media platforms. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene was permanently banned on Twitter and suspended from Facebook after posting “COVID-19 misinformation.”
McCarthy doesn’t want Pelosi to investigate January 6 at all. He says that if Pelosi doesn’t place all 5 Republicans on the Committee, Republicans “will instead pursue our investigation of the facts.”
That wouldn’t be a bad thing at all. The best outcome would be a bipartisan investigation, but the facts will be regardless of who finds them.
