McCarthy Links Garland To Possible Impeachment Probe

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) implied this week that if the Department of Justice (DOJ) interfered with the investigation into Hunter Biden that there could be an impeachment probe into Attorney General Merrick Garland.

McCarthy referenced the allegations made by IRS whistleblowers that the DOJ pressured U.S. Attorney David Weiss during his investigation into the president’s son.

On Twitter, McCarthy wrote that if “the whistleblowers’ allegations are true, this will be a significant part of a larger impeachment inquiry into Merrick Garland’s weaponization of DOJ.”

Furthermore, McCarthy expanded on his thoughts during an interview with Fox News. He said that “the allegation from the IRS because of the whistleblowers and the DOJ are Garland, what he is saying and what David Weiss are saying privately are two different things.”

“And if it comes true what the IRS whistleblower is saying, we’re going to start impeachment inquires on the attorney general because it, a matter of fact, it shows that,” he said.

Last week, Garland was asked directly about possible interference regarding the investigation into the president’s son.

Garland told a news reporter in Stockholm, Sweden that he pledged upon taking office that “I would leave this matter in the hands of the U.S. attorney, who was appointed by the previous president and assigned to this matter by the previous administration, that he would be given full authority to decide the matter as he decided was appropriate. And that’s what he’s done.”

Separately, the attorney general argued that critics of the DOJ and FBI’s probe into the younger Biden constituted an attack on the American republic.

“I certainly understand that some have chosen to attack the integrity of the Justice Department as components and its employees by claiming that we do not treat like cases alike,” Garland said. “This constitutes an attack on an institution that is essential to American democracy and essential to the safety of the American people. Nothing could be further from the truth.”

McCarthy’s comments also come as Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said that President Joe Biden could face an impeachment probe due to his son’s alleged business dealings.
