Yesterday, second gentleman Doug Emhoff responded to critics and his own disclosures about a troubled past in her first marriage.
After the Daily Mail published a bombshell report, Emhoff released a blunt statement to CNN acknowledging he cheated on his first wife. The report added Emhoff had a relationship with and got the nanny of his children pregnant.
“During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions,” Emhoff said in a statement to CNN regarding his first wife, Kerstin Emhoff. “I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side.”
Emhoff did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment, but he offered the statement to CNN soon after the Daily Mail story came out.
Emhoff and his first wife were married from 1992 to 2009, and have two adult children — Cole, 29, and Ella, 25, who they co-parented with stepmom Harris.
Emhoff was a lawyer and Kerstin Emhoff worked as an executive producer on movies when they divorced in 2009. The pregnant nanny was working as a teacher at The Willows, an exclusive private elementary school in Culver City, California, and had to leave her job. However, the report says the nanny didn’t keep the baby.
Harris met Emhoff in 2013 while she was serving as California attorney general, and the couple married a year later. Harris knew about the affair before they tied the knot and Biden was also apparently told about it during its vice presidential vetting process.
In a statement to CNN, Kerstin Emhoff said: “Doug and I decided to end our marriage for a variety of reasons, many years ago. He is a great father to our kids, continues to be a great friend to me and I am really proud of the warm and supportive blended family Doug, Kamala and I have built together.”
