Vice President Kamala Harris found herself in hot water over the weekend after making some pretty bold claims about former President Donald Trump’s visit to Arlington National Cemetery. What started as a respectful commemoration quickly turned into a political battleground, with Harris using the occasion to take aim at Trump while ignoring the real reason he was there.
Trump had visited Arlington to honor the 13 U.S. soldiers who tragically lost their lives during the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal in 2021 — a withdrawal that Harris herself had a direct hand in approving. Instead of focusing on the solemnity of the event, Harris chose to promote a debunked narrative based on reports that surfaced of an altercation between a cemetery worker and Trump’s team.
The worker reportedly tried to block Trump’s media team from filming, leading to a brief confrontation. Trump’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, suggested that the worker might have been “suffering from a mental health episode,” while Trump’s campaign co-manager, Chris LaCivita, called the incident a “disgrace.
Harris, in a speech, accused Trump of disrespecting the sacred grounds of Arlington by having his media team film the event, claiming it was a “political stunt.”
She even went so far as to repeat a false story that Trump had called fallen service members “suckers” and “losers,” a claim that 19 officials, including those who were with Trump in Paris at the time, have repeatedly denied.
“As vice president, I have had the privilege of visiting Arlington National Cemetery several times. It is not a place for politics. And yet, as was reported this week, Donald Trump’s team chose to film a video there, resulting in an altercation with cemetery staff. Let me be clear: the former president disrespected sacred ground, all for the sake of a political stunt,” she wrote.
As Vice President, I have had the privilege of visiting Arlington National Cemetery several times. It is a solemn place; a place where we come together to honor American heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service of this nation.
It is not a place for politics.
And…

The Democratic presidential nominee’s remarks didn’t go over well, as the online backlash was swift and fierce, with many quick to point out the hypocrisy of her statements.
Trump’s spokesperson, Karoline Levitt, wrote, “Kamala Harris bragged about being the last person in the room with Joe Biden when they decided on their terrible Afghanistan withdrawal plan. Kamala’s stupidity led to one of the most embarrassing events in American history and 13 brave U.S. soldiers being killed.”
“She has never said their names. She has never reached out to their families. For this alone, Kamala does not deserve to be elected. Kamala has already proven that she would be a dangerously incompetent Commander in Chief,” she added.
Levitt wasn’t the only one to defend Trump, as Gold Star families, who were at the event with Trump, expressed their deep appreciation for his presence, stating that Trump and his team showed nothing but the “utmost respect and dignity” for their fallen loved ones. They even clarified that they had given Trump’s team permission to document the occasion, ensuring that these sacred moments would be preserved.
“We would like to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to President Donald J. Trump for his presence at the recent Section 60 gathering, honoring our children and their fallen brothers and sisters,” a statement from the families read.
They added, “On the three-year anniversary of the Abbey Gate bombing, the president and his team conducted themselves with nothing but the utmost respect and dignity for all of our Service members, especially our beloved children…We are deeply grateful to the president for taking the time to honor our children and for standing alongside us in our grief, offering his unwavering support during such a difficult time. His compassion and respect meant more than words can express.”
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time a sitting president has had a media team with them at Arlington. Back in 2010, while serving as vice president, Joe Biden had his media team with him during a visit to the very same Section 60 of the cemetery. The footage was later used in a campaign ad for his 2020 presidential run.
Jerry Dunleavy was quick to point that out, writing, “The Biden-Harris campaign just two months ago used footage & images (some up-close) of U.S. military cemetery graves, of American flag-draped caskets, of gravestones of U.S. troops, & of a grieving woman on an American flag-draped casket to attack Trump.”

“That Kamala Harris is trying to get another day on this Trump/Arlington cemetery story – when the *only reason* these 13 families have to visit Arlington at all was because of Kamala Harris and Joe Biden’s disastrously bad leadership – shows how absurd this election is,” Matt Whitlock wrote.
