Iranian scheme to harm President foiled, targeted others.

Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a branch of Iran’s military designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the previous administration in 2019.

Shakeri, believed to be at large in Iran, reportedly informed American law enforcement agents that the IRGC had tasked him with devising a plan to harm the then-President-elect. However, he missed the deadline to do so. Allegedly, the IRGC then intended to postpone the attempt until after the 2024 presidential election, anticipating the then-President-elect’s loss and subsequent reduction in security detail.

The Iranian government, an Islamist regime, has long claimed to be prosecuting officials from the previous administration in retaliation for the 2020 operation that eliminated Qasem Soleimani, the then-head of the IRGC Quds Force. The Quds Force is the IRGC’s foreign wing, and Soleimani was responsible for numerous global activities. Shortly after the election, the IRGC reportedly published a video threatening the then-President-elect.
