Christopher Wray, the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), tendered his resignation on Wednesday, as reported by multiple news outlets. Fox News was the first to break the story that Wray had stepped down amid rumors circulating about his potential resignation. Wray’s appointment as the FBI Director was made by the then-President Donald Trump in 2017.

Reportedly, Wray’s decision to resign stemmed from his desire to avoid being terminated by Trump upon assuming office for his second term. With Wray’s departure, Paul Abbate, the Deputy Director, will now take over as the acting Director of the FBI.

This week, Kash Patel, Trump’s nominee for the position of FBI Director, is scheduled to meet with Republican senators on Capitol Hill.
