Elise Stefanik Calls On Biden To Secure Northern Border

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) called on President Joe Biden to secure the northern border of the U.S. amid an 846% increase in illegal border crossings.

According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Swanton border sector in New York has experienced an 846% increase in encounters and apprehensions from October 2022 to January 2023.

“Fiscal year-to-Date (October 1, 2022, to January 31, 2023) data demonstrates an approximate 846% increase in encounters and apprehensions compared to the same period of FY22,” CBP stated.

Referencing the CBP’s report, Stefanik said:

“Joe Biden has brought his Southern Border crisis to New York State, and now the Biden Administration finally admits the Northern Border across my district is not secure.”

“From the beginning, I have stood up for our border patrol and warned against how Joe Biden’s Southern Border crisis has forced border patrol agents in my district into no-notice deployments, weakening morale and leaving security openings at the Northern Border,” she added. “But it has taken months for him to admit his crisis at the Northern Border.”

The New York congresswoman noted that Biden refused to address the “invasion” while encouraging illegal immigrants to arrive in her state.

“Instead of addressing this crisis, Joe Biden has passed the buck and shipped his crisis to New York State with the assist from Kathy Hochul and Eric Adams, who both support policies to incentivize illegal immigrants to continue to pour into New York,” she said.

The Biden administration’s handling of the border has come under severe criticism from Republicans following years of historic illegal apprehensions along the southern border.

Since Biden became president, over 1.2 million illegal migrants evaded authorities.

Furthermore, the U.S. Border Patrol is requesting help along the Swanton Sector of the northern border.

In an email, Border Patrol assistant chief Juan Garcia requested help from Swanton Sector chiefs, according to Fox News. In it, Garcia says that the increase is primarily due to “Mexican migrants with no legal documents” entering the U.S. from Canada.

“Due to the strain caused by this surge, USBP HQ is seeking volunteers from the Northern and Southern Border Sectors to temporarily detail additional personnel to [Swanton Sector] to increase detention and custody operations, transportation, and flight line security operations.”

Under the Biden administration, the U.S. has experienced record illegal border crossings at the southern and northern border.
