CNN Recently Sparred With Tim Ryan Over Abortion

Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) is currently running for reelection and has been in the news quite a bit lately.

Ryan raised eyebrows after he came out against Joe Biden’s plan to waive $10,000 to $20,000 in student loan debt per borrower and pass the bill onto the US taxpayer.

The Ohio Democrat declared this doesn’t send the right message to people in his district who are working jobs without having degrees.

Some people speculated that Ryan is saying this in order to win over moderate voters and fend off the challenge he faces from Republican J.D. Vance.

Now, Ryan is making headlines again, this time over his tense conversation with CNN regarding abortion.

Picking Apart Ryan’s Views on Abortion
According to Ryan, he’s not supportive of late-term abortions unless a medical issue presents itself within the mother. He then went on to claim that Republicans like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and JD Vance shouldn’t have a say on the matter.

However, CNN host Dana Bash pushed back a bit. She claimed that as a member of Congress, it’s appropriate for Ryan to know what he believes should be done regarding abortion, even as someone who’s not a doctor.

To this end, Ryan claimed that lawmakers can’t make this decision for a woman and it’s between her and her doctors.

Bash then claimed the Ohio Democrat seemed to be endorsing abortion with absolutely no restrictions.

Ryan then responded by declaring “no one” supports abortion until the very end of a pregnancy. This came before him arguing that Vance’s view favoring complete bans on abortion without exceptions is “insanity.”

The Midterm Elections
Since the overturn of Roe v. Wade, Democrats have been counting on abortion as an issue to help them win their elections in November.

Yet, polling continues to show that the vast majority of Americans aren’t on board with abortion on demand. Moreover, Ryan isn’t the only Democrat who’s struggled to articulate when they believe restrictions on abortion are appropriate.

Between now and November, Americans can expect to hear more about abortion, especially as Democrats pull out all the stops to keep control of Congress.
