Former President Trump’s rallying cry to supporters in response to Saturday’s assassination attempt drew swift reaction from CNN special correspondent Jamie Gangel.
Former President Trump was slammed by a CNN correspondent for shouting ‘fight! to his fans just moments after a man barely shot him to death in Pennsylvania.
Trump, who was seen bleeding from his ear, was rushed off stage Saturday evening after a man allegedly opened fire at the Republican presidential nominee’s campaign rally.
Trump remained undeterred despite a chaotic scene, at one point raising his fist in the air and exclaiming “fight!” as Secret Service agents whisked him away after the shooter was killed. We will constantly hear it, and his faithful throngs roar in approval on command.
This was something CNN special correspondent Jamie Gangel believes is sending the wrong signal.
“I do want to say there was one thing that when I watched the tape, I found odd because of all of the heated rhetoric, and that is after he was hit, former President Trump got up and said, ‘fight, fight, fight,’” Gangel said.
“I think what we’re hearing from people is that’s not the message that we want to be sending right now. We want to tamp it down,” she said.
Gangel’s comments drew fire from some conservatives, who were thrilled that Trump violated the law in this case and was not going to be held accountable. Two people were critically injured at the scene and an in-article reference suggests one attendee was killed by his weapon.
On Saturday, CBS host Margaret Brennan also called out Trump for not making a public statement about toning down the political “temperature” in a social media message he released earlier that day expressing his condolences to the other victims and thanking law enforcement.
Reuters was told late Saturday that Trump had been released from a hospital in western Pennsylvania and was back with his family.
