President Biden has tested positive for COVID-19 and will self-isolate in Delaware after his first event of the day in Las Vegas on Wednesday, according to a White House official.
In a statement following news of the president’s positive test, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden is “vaccinated and boosted” with mild symptoms.
“He will be returning to Delaware where he will self-isolate and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time,” Jean-Pierre said. “The White House will provide regular updates on the President’s status as he continues to carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation.”
Biden then jetted to Las Vegas on Wednesday afternoon after his diagnosis was announced, arriving at the Harry Reid International Airport without a mask. Reporters asked the president about his condition as he walked to Air Force One.
Biden replied, “I feel good.”
Biden announced in a post on X that he had COVID.
“I will be isolating as I recover, and during this time I will continue to work to get the job done for the American people,” he wrote.
The president’s physician reported that Biden had developed mild upper respiratory symptoms with a cough and runny nose. The doctor also said that Biden had a temperature of 97.8 degrees, which is too concerning.
Biden was supposed to attend the UnidosUS Annual Conference in Las Vegas this week, alongside thousands of Latino advocates who will converge on Nevada ahead of the key swing state.
The move comes as both Biden is reportedly coming under increasing pressure on others within the Democratic party and major donors to remove himself from the presidential hermetically-sealed container due reports of his deteriorating physical and mental condition.
