Black Lives Matter voted for President Joe Biden. Otherwise, they “ain’t Black.” Biden may have finally come out of his shell and began to push back on Black Lives Matter as well as “The Squad,” although it’s not even close to redeemable.
The idea of abolishing prisons isn’t a new one, but it’s a ridiculous one. What would that even look like?
Just for context, a hold is placed on domestic abusers, male or female, when they are charged with assaulting their counterparts. Why? Because the justice system gives a window of time for the other party to leave and get out of harm’s way if they choose. It allows the opportunity for the victim to gather their belongings and escape the relationship. Usually, it’s a 48-hour hold. Not only that, but it will enable the couple to calm down while they’re separated.
Press Secretary Jen Psaki said during a press conference, “The president does not support abolishing prisons. He does not support defunding the police. He thinks measures like that will make us less safe, and he would not support legislation that includes it.”
Not many people believe that, but when you punt the ball so far, there’s room in the middle to compromise and get what you want. It’s never going to happen even if Biden supported it.
Then, there’s Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), who advocates for the Breathe Act. And no, it’s not about breathing.
First, you can’t decriminalize crime and immigration. It doesn’t matter if a law exists or even an immigration system if it’s not illegal to cross into the United States without being a citizen. Then, you have the incarceration aspect. You can’t just let out everyone. That would never work out how you think it would. They imagine a peaceful, structured penal system where everyone apologizes for everything they did wrong. If you believe, tour your local jail. It’s a dangerous place where you take all criminals off the street and try to force them to follow the rules. It’s not all rainbows and unicorns.
Good try, though. They almost had it. Maybe they should have tried to create a real-life Purge. They would have had better chances with that.
