President Joe Biden claimed this week that he never spoke to any of his son Hunter’s business associates. Biden’s assertion came after his son’s former business partner Devon Archer testified to Congress that the president spoke with Hunter’s business contacts on more than 20 occasions.
Biden was asked about the allegations Wednesday by Fox News’ Peter Doocy. “I never talked business with anybody, and I knew you’d have a lousy question,” Biden said.
When Doocy asked what made it a “lousy question,” Biden replied that it was “Because it’s not true.”
Archer told the committee about Hunter Biden calling his father while with his business associates. He said that the elder Biden’s involvement was done to sell the family’s “brand.”
House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) said that Archer told members of Congress Monday that the president was more involved in his son’s business dealings than publicly admitted.
Comer said that it was proof the president “lied to the American people when he said he had no knowledge about his son’s business dealings and was not involved.”
Comer also stated that Joe Biden joined his son’s “dinners with his foreign business associates in person.”
The Kentucky Republican specifically cited the Biden family’s relationship with the Ukrainian energy company Burisma. Both Hunter Biden and Archer served on the company’s board, with the former being paid more than $80,000 per month for the role.
As vice president, Joe Biden traveled to Ukraine and threatened to withhold $1 billion in American aid unless a prosecutor investigating Burisma was dismissed, which then occurred.
“Why did Joe Biden lie to the American people about his family’s business dealings and his involvement?” Comer asked.
In addition, Archer told commentator Tucker Carlson that it was “categorically false” that the elder Biden had no role in his son’s business dealings. Archer said that he believed that Joe Biden “was aware of Hunter’s business.”
He added that the president met with this son’s business partners, including a letter that Joe Biden sent to Archer in 2011.
