The Democratic incumbent senator from Wisconsin, Tammy Baldwin, managed to secure a narrow victory in her re-election bid against Republican challenger Eric Hovde. According to reports from Politico, Baldwin garnered 49.4% of the votes, while Hovde received 48.5%. Despite Baldwin’s win in this hotly contested race, the Republicans have already succeeded in flipping three seats, solidifying their Senate majority.
@EricHovde got screwed out of a senate seat last night in my home state.
Below is the toll at 2am last night.
Suddenly, I woke up and Tammy Baldwin had all the votes she needed from Milwaukee. This is criminal! If Florida can count all votes well before midnight so can Wi. pic.twitter.com/KV8Tnuk632— AJ Hurley (@AJHurleyLife) November 7, 2024
Although Baldwin has enjoyed comfortable margins in previous election cycles, this particular race was exceptionally close. In a post on X, the victorious candidate expressed her gratitude, stating, “The voters have spoken and our campaign has won. Wisconsinites chose someone who always puts them first, shows up, listens, and works with everyone to get the job done. I’m proud to head back to the Senate to keep fighting for our workers, farmers, and families that make our state great.”
While Baldwin has historically won her seat with ease, this election was a much tighter contest. Hovde managed to significantly narrow Baldwin’s lead in the run-up to the race, turning her near eight-point advantage from July into a victory margin of less than a single point on Election Day.
Eric Hovde had a 2 point lead in Wisconsin's Senate race with 93.2% reporting.
But it looks like Tammy Baldwin is magically winning 67% of the remaining votes as they come in.

As the votes were being tallied, Hovde expressed disappointment with the results. “We’re watching the final precinct results come in,” Hovde said in a Wednesday post on X. “We’re certainly disappointed with the outcome, but we respect the will of the voters. We will continue to monitor returns and make sure that every valid vote is counted.”
